Meet Our 2026 Summer Associates and Interns

Meet Our 2026 Summer Associates and Interns

Summer is in full swing at Walsh, Colucci, Lubeley & Walsh, and that means we’ve welcomed another group of summer associates and interns to the firm! Please join us in welcoming four outstanding students who bring fresh energy, diverse experiences, and a passion for the legal field to our team this summer:

Summer Associates
Liam Albrittain, Rising 3L at University of Richmond School of Law

Summer Interns
Kai Mason, Rising 2nd-year undergraduate student at Virginia Commonwealth University
Hannah Nieman, Graduate of William & Mary
Sophia Khwaja, Rising 3rd-year undergraduate student at William & Mary

We asked them a few fun and thoughtful questions so you can get to know them a little better, here’s what they shared:

What inspired you to pursue a career in law?
Liam: A classics and history double major fascinated by how different ordered systems work and interrelate, and the law, he says, is the ordered system par excellence. Law school also brought him back to his home state of Virginia, at University of Richmond School of Law.
Hannah: Legally Blonde, just kidding, but ever since she was a kid, she has been interested in law as a career. A love of reading, research, and philosophy classes sealed the deal, along with mentorship from the firm’s own Chuck McWilliams, whose path from accounting to law mirrors her own.
Sophia: A lifelong love of reading, writing, and problem-solving made law a natural fit, a way to combine those interests while helping clients navigate complex issues.
Kai: His high school criminal justice teacher inspired him; she even got him a Christmas gift.

What area of law are you most passionate about?
Liam: Real property law, since every piece of land is unique, so every land dispute is unique as well.
Hannah: Estate and tax law. She’s pursuing her CPA alongside her summer at the firm and loves combining detail-oriented accounting work with making a personal difference in clients’ lives.
Sophia: Corporate and business law.
Kai: Cyber law or land use law.

Surprising fun fact?
Liam: He plays guitar, exclusively jazz. Deep down, he sometimes wishes he’d chosen saxophone.
Hannah: She just went bungee jumping, despite having a fear of heights!
Sophia: Last summer, she and a friend ran a full marathon (26.2 miles) for fun, without ever signing up for an official race.
Kai: He once almost paralyzed himself.

What are you most looking forward to this summer?
Liam: His 18-month-old nephew learning to talk, he thinks he’s almost there!
Hannah: Learning from the people at the firm, hearing their journeys, and diving into the actual work of the job.
Sophia: Gaining hands-on experience, supporting attorneys, and learning more about the legal side of real estate.
Kai: Learning from the people and hearing their stories.

Best legal advice so far?
Liam: From a Business Associations professor at Richmond Law, after reading a judicial opinion noting the court’s astonishment: it’s never good if you’ve astonished the court.
Hannah: If you start your answer with “it depends,” you are on the right track!
Sophia: Gain as much real-world legal experience as possible, especially across different practice areas, it keeps you open-minded and helps you explore your interests.
Kai: Take it one day at a time.

If you could work on any type of case?
Liam: A defamation case, he’s drawn to the litigation challenge of presenting character evidence, normally inadmissible but central to proving reputational harm.
Hannah: An estate involving a large private art collection, a perfect blend of her accounting background and her studio art major and passion for art history.
Sophia: An M&A (Mergers & Acquisitions) deal.
Kai: A data breach case. Helping clients in crisis would be amazing.

One goal for the summer?
Liam: To get in the pool regularly and become a stronger swimmer, a low-impact alternative while nagging injuries keep this longtime runner sidelined.
Hannah: To draft an entire estate, plus visit as many firm offices as possible and run a 10K before summer’s end!
Sophia: To learn how attorneys build strong, trusting relationships with clients and guide them through complex decisions.
Kai: Learn new skills that will help him in law school.

We’re thrilled to have Liam Albrittain, Kai Mason, Hannah Nieman, and Sophia Khwaja with us this summer. Their drive and curiosity inspire us, and the future of the legal profession is clearly in good hands.
